What Will 2020 Bring?

What Will 2020 Bring?

New Year's Day 2020, Looking Forward to the Next 364.

Critter count for today's run: low flying Hawk, a few buffalo and some ducks & loons. Plenty of cold air and no snakes on this first day of 2020. 3.95 miles logged. This was a 20x20 minute run just for New Year funzies. My coach has jokes.

All this to say happiness for me is a holiday run. They are always special. Thanksgiving runs make me hungry, Valentine's day brings the love, Fourth of July brings the fun, and Today is for reflection and fresh starts.

Thoughts for today: Will I be a better version of myself in 2020? Will I finally agree that when my nutrition plan calls for “good carbs” that does not mean drink more tasty local brews? Will I be more patient when someone walks up to me after a race and asks me how it's possible for me to swim? Or any other very strange questions.

Everyone that I ran by today had a smile to offer. Maybe it's because I was putting it all out there? I was relaxed, happy, smiling, singing too loudly to my new playlist, and bouncing along without a care in the world. So many lovely wandering thoughts. They came as fast as they went. This is really what I love about being active. That feeling of euphoria that comes around when everything falls into place for a just a few moments. Don't get me wrong, there's always a sense of satisfaction that comes with a good ol' fashioned kick butt workout, but this is that special thing. The feeling that keeps us “crazy folks” going. The one that we can't really explain to those who don't work out. It's our special Why. Everyone should have this. It doesn't necessarily need to be through exercise, although that would be excellent.

This is my wish for 2020: That we all find what brings us our moments of happiness, hold on to them and help others find their way to do the same. Well this and a high volume/variety critter count on my adventures. Everyone needs something, right? Happy New Year Sirens! I wish you all the best in 2020.
