Our Favorite Espresso Martini Recipe
I am pretty sure that the only thing that triathletes love more than swimming, biking and running is…coffee.
Well, that may not be entirely true. It is probably a tie between coffee and…BOOZE! Luckily for us, there is an AWESOME drink that combines our favorite PRE and POST race libations…the Espresso Martini!
British bartender Dick Bradsell invented this now-classic drink, a.k.a. the Vodka Espresso, at Fred’s Club in London in the late ’80s. Legend has it that Kate Moss asked for a drink that would “wake me up and then f*ck me up” at the same time. The Espresso Martini was born.
Despite the kick of espresso, this drink is definitely ONLY advised as a post-race pick me up!
Espresso Martini
2 ounces vanilla vodka (I prefer Stoli)
½ ounce simple syrup
½ ounce coffee liqueur (I prefer Kahlua)
1 ounce freshly brewed espresso
3 Espresso Beans for Garnish
Directions: Add all ingredients into a shaker filled with ice and shake vigorously for approximately 30 seconds. Pour through a fine strainer into a chilled martini glass. Garnish with the 3 espresso beans.
Enjoy!
